Thrifty Derby Hats

As I promised last week, today's Thrifty Thursday will feature the hats my grandma and I made and wore to the derby.  We took some simple hats bought at thrift stores for a couple of dollars. Bought a few embellishments at Hobby Lobby and the rest were flowers, ribbons, and accents we had, or got at a yard sale. I did a lot of looking online to see what was in-style for hats. The larger the better.

I'm going to The Derby!

Weeeelllll...kinda. When you read this I will be in Oklahoma City at Remington Park celebrating at their version of Derby Day.

Last year I posted about hats and the history, you can read that here. This year I am actually going to get to wear a big hat, 3 generations will be entered in the hat contest listed above.   I will let you know how it goes and next week's Thrifty Thursday will feature the hats we made.

Oh yeah.....Happy Cinco De Mayo as well!

Cowboys & Indians Magazine

I'm not sure how many of you receive the magazine Cowboys & Indians, or if you have even heard of it. My family has been getting this for years. Its a little more classy than country. Most of the ads for western wear I couldn't begin to afford to buy. Then again, there are some really cool, down to earth, and local...attainable you might say.
I have proof.....Let me do a little bragging my uncle won the photo contest for the Portrait division.

He is actually a Kansas boy!
This is in the current issue, along with the other photo divisons, which have some amazing pictures.  Check out the magazine, you might enjoy it.

Best of the Barns

There is a little contest ya'll should check out. This is the second year they have had this friendly little competition. I know a couple people who are up for nominations. First head over to Crystal Cattle for a fun little give away and then  head to Best of the Barns and vote.

Oh someday for me to be in that league.
