Summer Time- Ice Cream & Cicadas

Well, Summer is here-not officially but when it is 95 degrees I call it summer.  I love making homemade ice cream and venturing out to make some unique flavors. When I was in Europe my travel buddies (Kels & Alicia) gave me a hard time because I always ordered the "weird" flavors; rice, cantalope, poppy seed..........

Here is a flavor that I don't know if I would order: Cicada! When sitting outside on a cool summer evening it never crossed my mind to make those noisemakers into ice cream. However, Sparky's Homemade Ice Cream in Columbia, MO has done just that.

The insects coated in brown sugar and chocolate are mixed in a brown sugar and butter based ice cream.

  1. Ugh I am pretty sure i couldn't do that. When I first moved to Kansas I had no idea what that sound was in the summer, then my judging teammates explained.

  2. Um, I think I'll pass on anything like that, I like chocolate or vanilla quite alright...

  3. Hmm, I think I'll pass! Lol! Looks like something from Bizarre Foods!
